Pitching or Catching

Perspective is an incredibly persuasive thing.  In my house, we say, “That depends on if you are pitching or catching.”

I remember the day I took this picture. It seems like yesterday.  Only it wasn’t yesterday, my wide-eyed, precious little boy who gazed with wonder and amazement is 16 years old.  He now sees the world differently.

My daughter was reading me “Mouse Tales” by Arnold Lobel this week in the car.  She read me the story “Very Tall Mouse and Very Short Mouse”.  The story starts with two friends, the very tall mouse and the very short mouse.  Very Tall Mouse and Very Short Mouse walked together.  Very Tall Mouse said hello to the birds.  Very Short Mouse said hello to the bugs.  They went by a garden.  Very Tall Mouse said hello to the flowers while Very Short Mouse said hello to the roots.  They strolled by a house.  Very Tall Mouse said hello to the roof.  Very Short Mouse said hello to the cellar.  It began to rain.  Very Tall Mouse said hello to the raindrops.  Very Short Mouse said hello to the puddles.  As the storm raged the two friends came inside.  Very Tall Mouse said hello to the ceiling while Very Short Mouse said hello to the floor.  When the rain stopped, the two friends went to the window.  Very Tall Mouse lifts Very Short Mouse so they both can gaze out the window.  Together they both say hello to a rainbow.

I loved that my little girl read me this story.  Perspective and hope, friendship and kindness, walking together in sunshine and rain. What a story beautiful story!

“And taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them,  ‘Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives  Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.'” Mark 9:36-37

“And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; and the disciples rebuked them.  But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, ‘Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it at all.'” Mark 10:13-15

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and they truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.'” John 14:6

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8

“The wise in heart will be called discerning, and sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness.  Understanding is a fountain of life to him who has it, but the discipline of fools is folly.  The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds persuasiveness to his lips.  Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.  There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 16: 21-25

“And He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment.  The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”  Matthew 22:37-40

My perspective is that, whether I am pitching or catching, I want to serve God.  The only truth comes from Him.  I am imperfect.  There is no doubt.  I need my Savior.

The Bible brings God’s truth to us. I only quoted a few of the lessons and words from within its cover, but please take the time to study.  It will change your perspective.  You will experience a hope and an awe that only He can give.
